Minister Silvio Costa Filho Guarantees that Santos Port Will Not Be Privatized and Announces Investments

During a visit to Santos, the Minister announced investments and the end of the Investment Partnership Program (PPI), which foresaw the privatization of the port complex.

The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, announced the end of the Investment Partnership Program (PPI), which foresaw the privatization of the Port of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, during a visit to the city on Friday (27). He also announced million-dollar investments for the region.

The decision prevents the management of the port complex from being privatized, which was the objective of the previous government. According to the Minister, private capital will be attracted for investments through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). He estimates that the Port of Santos will receive investments of R$ 13.4 billion over a period of eight to ten years.

For example, the construction of the Santos-Guarujá tunnel will be made possible through a PPP and will also have resources from the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC). According to TV Tribuna, the announcement of the dry connection is expected to be made in November.

During the visit to Santos, Silvio Costa Filho also confirmed R$ 400 million for works such as the Perimetral da Margem Esquerda do Porto and R$ 6 billion in dredging through PPPs.

The National Secretary of Ports and Airports, Mariana Pescatori, federal deputies, and the mayors Rogério Santos and Válter Sumam, from Santos and Guarujá, respectively, accompanied the minister’s visit.

Guarujá Airport

The Minister also spoke about the works that will allow the opening of the Metropolitan Airport of Guarujá for commercial flights.

“God willing, now, at the beginning of December, we should return to Santos to give the order of service for the Guarujá Airport, which will be fundamental for the region, with investments in the order of over R$ 25 million,” he said, in a press conference.

São Vicente and Praia Grande

According to the Port Authority of Santos (APS), the Minister also confirmed the extension of the Port Polygon to the territory of São Vicente and Praia Grande, aiming to encourage waterways and retro-port activities.

Costa Filho also signed as a witness the agreement between the Municipality of Santos and the Port Authority of Santos, which guarantees the transfer of R$ 40 million for the implementation of Valongo Park.

“It is necessary that we increasingly bring investments and actions to Santos, in order to improve and expand governance and investments in our docks and also make a set of investments,” he emphasized.

Another announcement by Costa Filho was regarding the delegation of authority to the Port Authority to tender, manage, and decide on grants and other measures that currently depend on Brasília.
